What TrainingPeaks is good at
Structured training plans from coaches. Periodization. Long-term progression. If you have a coach prescribing your training on TrainingPeaks, the plan itself is solid. The question is whether today is the right day to execute it.
What it misses
Whether your body is ready for today’s prescribed session. TrainingPeaks plans are written weeks or months in advance. They can’t account for the bad night of sleep you had, the work stress, or the extra-hard group ride you did yesterday that wasn’t on the plan.
How Rudder uses it
TrainingPeaks feeds the Plan channel. Rudder looks at:
- ·Workout type classification (key session vs filler)
- ·Intensity detection (threshold, VO2max, endurance, recovery)
- ·Key session identification (the workouts that matter most this week)
- ·Plan-vs-reality gap (what was prescribed vs what your body can deliver)
When recovery is low and the plan says intervals, Rudder doesn’t just say “skip it.” It tells you what to do instead and explains why the substitution protects your training block.
Best for
Coached athletes using TrainingPeaks calendars who want a daily reality check on the plan.
Example decision
Coach prescribed threshold intervals. But HRV is down 18% and you slept 5 hours.
Rudder: MODIFY to Zone 2 endurance. Protect the training block. The key session can move to Thursday when you’re recovered.
How to connect
Paste your TrainingPeaks webcal:// URL in Settings. Rudder reads the iCal feed directly — no API approval needed, no TrainingPeaks account linking, zero setup friction.
Frequently asked

- Can Rudder modify my TrainingPeaks plan?
- Rudder doesn't write to TrainingPeaks. We read your plan and suggest adjustments when today's decision means the week needs reshuffling. The changes happen in your training, not in the calendar.
