Rudder vs Garmin Training Readiness.

One number. No explanation. No plan context. Here's what's missing.

What Garmin Training Readiness does well

Single composite score combining HRV status, sleep, recovery time, and training load. Available on the wrist every morning. No app needed. Integrated into the largest wearable ecosystem in endurance sports.

The problem with one number

Training Readiness 28. Now what? Is it because you slept poorly? Because yesterday’s ride was hard? Because you had two beers? Garmin doesn’t say. And it doesn’t know you have race-prep intervals on the plan — it would give you 28 whether today is rest day or race day.

Pretty sure if it were up to my Garmin, I’d just be staying in bed all day.

I would have a training readiness of 1 and feel great on a 2 hour MTB ride (50% in zone 5).

What Garmin can't do

No feel capture. No plan awareness. No conflict explanation. No warmup gate. No override tracking. No personal pattern learning. Body Battery and Training Readiness often disagree with each other.

Better together

Garmin is the sensor. Rudder is the interpreter. Garmin captures HR, sleep, and training load on your wrist. Rudder adds feel, plan context, and personal history to turn that data into a decision you can trust.

Frequently asked

Can I use Rudder with Garmin?
Yes. Rudder syncs your Garmin training data via Strava. Your workouts, heart rate, power, and training load all feed into the decision engine.
How is this different from Garmin Training Readiness?
Garmin Training Readiness is a score based on device data. It doesn't ask how you feel, doesn't know your training plan, and gives the same score whether today is a rest day or your key threshold session. Rudder resolves all of that into one actionable call.
Does Rudder replace Garmin?
No. Keep your Garmin. It captures workout data that Rudder uses. We add the feel layer and the decision that Garmin's readiness score can't provide.
